About SHRI KALURAM BAMNIYA

Shri Kaluram Bamniya, a renowned singer of Kabir Bhajans, was born on January 20, 1970, in Kanheriya village, Dewas district, Madhya Pradesh. He was raised in a family of marginal farmers and agricultural laborers, where singing bhajans at night was a cherished tradition. Inspired by his father and grandfather, Shri Kaluram began learning and accompanying them on the manjira as a child and started singing at the age of nine.

Despite limited education—studying only up to class 3—he later attended adult literacy classes. Due to financial hardships, he started working as a laborer at 12 and at 13 moved to Rajasthan, where he worked in a hotel by day and learned bhajans by night. After returning to his village, he endured bonded labor for 14 years to support his family.

Shri Kaluram specializes in Kabir Bhajans, as well as compositions by Mirabai and Goraknath, sung in the Malwi dialect. He has performed widely at local events and prestigious forums such as India International Center, Kabir festivals, and universities like AIIMS Rishikesh and Ashoka University. An Akashvani artist, his recordings have been featured on radio, television, and in documentaries.

As an active member of the Kabir Bhajan & Vichar Manch, Dewas, he trains women and children in Malwa’s folk traditions. Shri Kaluram has received numerous accolades, including the Rashtriya Tulsi Award, Kabir Kohinoor Puraskar, and Bheraji Samman. In recognition of his invaluable contributions to preserving Kabir’s legacy, he was honored with the Padma Shri in 2024.
